I'm pretty good with exercising, but I need diet/nutrition help. It's been six months since I gave birth to my beautiful daughter and I'm still carrying lots of pregnancy weight.
I need some tips on a weight loss diet that won't negatively affect my milk supply. -------------------- |

I'm pretty good with exercising, but I need diet/nutrition help. It's been six months since I gave birth to my beautiful daughter and I'm still carrying lots of pregnancy weight. I need some tips on a weight loss diet that won't negatively affect my milk supply. Here is some information you might find helpful. The La Leche League subcommittee on nutrition during lactation said that there is a wide variation in weight loss with women who are lactating; but if the mother gains weight or has stopped losing weight after the first two months, she can increase her activity level and reduce her caloric intake by 100 calories per day. They also said that mothers reducing their caloric intake by 25% safely lost about one pound (.45kg) per week without affecting their baby's growth. But remember, breastfeeding moms need that extra 300-500 calories. In some studies done in the US found that women who consumed fewer than 1500 calories per day had a decrease in milk volume. Nursing moms need at least 1800 calories per day. WIC recommends breastfeeding moms get 8 ounces of grains, 4 cups milk, 5 cups of fruits/veggies (variety is best to get mix of vitamin and minerals) and 10 ounes of breads and cereals (try for whole grains). Watching your portion sizes and limiting those "extra" calories like added sugars, solid fats, sugared drinks, desserts, fried foods, whole milk, and fatty cuts of meat can add up to a lot of calorie savings! Also, slow weight loss is more likely to last. It is healthier to eat several small meals and snacks than one large one. Remember to drink plenty of water before and druing meals. I hope this information is helpful |
