Solid Waste Disposal
All landfills are inspected by the Southeastern District Health Department at least once a year. Landfills are broken into two basic types; a) Municipal landfills and b) non-municipal landfills. Municipal landfills are landfills that accept household waste. Non-municipal landfills accept items such as yard waste, concrete, construction waste debris, trees, limbs etc. Within our 8 county district we have 22 landfills consisting of 7 municipal landfills and 15 non-municipal landfills. |

Special Populations Planning Summit
The health district is coordinating a disaster preparedness workshop for agencies that work with special populations. The workshop will build awareness for personal disaster preparedness for special populations, including the elderly, people with disabilities, people with mental illness, minority groups, the non-English speaking, children, and the homeless. We encourage representatives of these special populations to attend and to forward the information to their clientele. This is the most efficient way to build personal preparedness throughout these special populations. The seminar schedule includes an overview of disaster preparedness, unique needs of special populations, and a review of actions to allow individuals to prepare. To end the seminar, we will have “open-floor” time for attendees to ask questions and voice concerns, which Southeastern Health District will compile these concerns and forward them to county emergency managers. The workshop is being held at Idaho State University on March 13, 2009. |
